Vermont

Slowly playing catch-up...

On Sunday October 13th we headed into Vermont and were quickly distracted by beautiful leaves and a very tall monument in Bennington, VT. It was HUGE, and was in honor of an important battle for a supply store in that very area during the Revolutionary War.

We drove along scenic Highway 9 in the south of Vermont, admired the leaves on the trees, and stopped at Mt. Snow for a mountain bike ride. Rob says Mt. Snow is a well known destination for skiing and mountain biking. There were a BUNCH of tree roots hidden amongst the leaves, which were rough for me to ride, but we ended up on a trail that had just enough less roots that we were able to have a great ride, albeit swampy at one point later. It was a grand adventure. :->

Our whole drive in Vermont had excellent foliage, and I'll bet we didn't even get the best show of leaves ever... Worth coming back again, and again, I think.

We got to Saxtons River, VT on the evening of the 13th, had a lovely dinner with some of them Lawrence clan: Annie, Timmy and Ellie. Monday the 14th we had a lazy day catching up on the previous blog posts, then we headed out to Bellows Falls to catch Timmy's soccer match. I could see some solid talent on Timmy's team, and also on the other team as well. It was so fun watching soccer again, and it was neat seeing it with the fall colors all around.

We had a pretty tasty dinner at a pub near Annie's house that evening, then spent a little time on Tuesday the 15th wandering around Saxtons River. There were many lovely houses, neat rocks in the creek, more pretty leaves, and a neat cemetery with really old graves. Most of the gravestones were of marble or granite, but the really old ones were all made of slate, and had beautifully intricate carvings that were still quite visible even after 200 years of aging. Seriously. One of the slate headstones was from 1806.
