Massachusetts & Rhode Island

On Wednesday October 23rd, we headed south from Jean's in Whitefield, Maine. We were heading for Cape Cod. We tried to time things so we could zip through Boston on our way south and not get caught up in any traffic. It worked out pretty well, though we did enjoy the skyline as we drove through.

Mmmm, delicious underground traffic...
We stopped for the night at Nickerson State Park, then headed off in the morning to Chatham Lighthouse, as recommended to us by the guy at the state park office. There were some nice views and pretty, fine, sand.

We cruised north along towards Provincetown, stopping for lunch at Herring Cove Beach. The sand there was very similar to that at Chatham Beach Lighthouse, which is no surprise, but the size of the sand grains was at least double that at Chatham, probably more like triple. I thought it was fascinating that it goes through that much change in size from the north to south ends of Cape Cod.
Herring Cove Beach
Not exactly the Mayflower, but very near where it landed.
We went up to Race Point Beach, close by, to check out the view from there.

After beaching, we headed down into Provincetown. I hopped out for a squashed penny, which turned out to be a half print, but such is life sometimes, then we headed back out.

We drove west, heading for Rhode Island, as I've always wanted to see the place. We passed through New Bedford, MA, which had a lot of charm from the road, as you can see here…

I got to see Provincetown, RI, which was much akin to several other big cities we'd been through, but still interesting to see. We headed south towards the coast and stayed the night at Charlestown Breachway, which has beachside camping for motorhomes and the like.

A church.
Old factory.
Friday the 25th, we got up early to catch the sunrise over the Atlantic, since we'd soon be too far inland to see it. I'm sure Rob got some great shots of the sunrise.

Here it comes!
Sunlight through the waves.
Lots of fisherpeople were out much earlier than us.
COLD!  It was about 30 degrees at the beach.
Rialta at first light.

Afterwards, Rob played with his rock crawler until the battery died, which was much too quickly. :)
Crawl baby crawl!
We headed off west again, admiring the beach houses on our way out.
Stilty beachhouses!

Catch you on the next entry.
