Settled Home

I've been meaning to do this one for a while. I finally remembered to take pictures of my place now that I'm pretty well settled. So here goes. There's a 3 and a half minute video at the end, if you want to kill time with a faux walkthrough. Enjoy.

Looking to the right as you step in.

The rock shelf. Yay!

My framed mineral art and large citrine crystal.

Busy wall-o-stuff (rocks, koalas, fairies, movies, books).

Showing the rest of the way along the wall, the back to back bookshelves and into the kitchen area.

The main area as you walk in. Yay pub table.

Pictures on kitchen wall. Extra kitchen storage on the bookshelf.

More kitchen-ness.

The rest of what little kitchen-ness I have.

Orange bathrobe, bathroom

Socks drying by the shower. Towel storage rack installed.

Colorful poster in bathroom mirror.

Shoes by the heater. Geologic cross section of Cedar Breaks and other places nearby. Cool candle holder.

Seismograph from the Mt. Saint Helens eruption hanging over the closet.

Cute chick over the bed. Purple velvety blanket. Necklace and earring holder. Framed diploma and photos of Edgar, Pete, Rosa and me.

Dresser, sewing table (under the orange blanket), framed pretty forest pictures over the window.

Wall behind the front door (not that I have a back door to distinguish it from).

Blanket storage.

Video tour of my place, starting out at the street. I got a clogging sticker on the bumper of my truck now (it's fluorescent orange. Yay!).

Vacuuming

Just a quick one:

I've thoroughly vacuumed my place at least four times now, plus one just before I moved in (thank you Dysons for being major suckers!). I had giant furballs in the vacuum canister that I blamed on the new carpet. I'd say the first two or three times that was correct, but now, I think I have to blame the cat. Especially since I bought this thing recently. It's called a "Love Glove" What a horribly hilarious name, huh? What marketing person let that through?

As you can guess, it's designed to collect your cat's hair as you pet them. Lois wasn't much of a shedder the first year or two, but that eventually changed and for at least two years now she's been just like all other cats in that respect. Petting her results in fluff tickling your nose and a light covering of fur over everything. Places that she chooses to lounge have a liberal coating of cat hair all over it, such as many a fuzzy blanket I own and the special spot she had on the couch when we lived at Knickerbocker. I decided to give the mitt a try the other day and I collected two solid mats of hair that I quickly realized looked just like the hairballs that had been collecting in the vacuum cleaner. So, now I know the culprit. I'm sure my long brown hair (though not as long as it used to be) is also a culprit, but the furballs are a definite peachy brown color, which is absolutely due to the addition of Lois's blacks and browns and light browns that she seems to have left all over the carpet.

So darn you kitty for making giant hairballs. I shake my fist at you!

Actually, I don't. She's adorable and still more dog-like than cat-like, so I still think she's awesome even if she does provide me with giant furballs in the vacuum cleaner. Still, I had to share and admit that I can no longer blame the carpet for my furball woes. :D
