Adjustment

Three months gone and I'm still adjusting to the solo life. I'm so used to having someone to care about and worry about and take into consideration when making choices and decisions. It's so hard to turn that off. One solution is to find someone else to fill that role, but I don't want to fill those Pete-sized holes with someone else. I need to find my solo feet, continue caring and worrying about my friends, like I always have, and make choices and decisions that fit me. Once I'm solid in that, then I can find someone else and discover a new give and take. A new two-step.

Grilled Cheese Bacon Burger

I know I haven't made a post in a while. I've got a few in my head and one started, but I felt this experience was worth taking a few quick minutes to write about and not worry about my other posts for now.

I had a late lunch today. I didn't know what I wanted. I ended up in a shopping center near Apple that has a Carl's Jr and a Quizno's. Sadly, a sandwich from Quizno's didn't sound good. I knew it was probably a bad idea, but I went for it anyway: I walked into Carl's Jr and perused the menu. I looked at it, thinking, "Salads. I could do that. Milkshakes? Nah." There weren't many people around, so the cashier/manager told me to take my time. Everything looked fine, but nothing beckoned me. Then I saw what looked like a new addition at the bottom of the menu: Grilled Cheese Bacon Burger. I think, "What is this? It looks like a Sourdough Jack, but I'm not at Jack in the Box. And hey, there's two slices of melty cheesy next to each bun. Ooo. This looks wonderfully, horribly delicious. I may regret this, but I'm gonna try it."

And try it I did. The sourdough bread wasn't as crispy as I might prefer, but it wasn't grossly greasy and limp either and it tasted good. The cheese, at least two different kinds of cheese, was actually all melty and there were three meaty slices of thin and crispy bacon rather than one or two mostly-fat slices that most places give you. The burger was well done and warm and grilled and not tasting like it had been boiled. The cheese was gooey and it was like eating a grilled cheese, but it was like eating a really cheesy cheeseburger too. It was wonderful. And horrible. And delicious. And probably the equivalent of at least three meals. And it was so tasty. And I feel like a horrible gluttonous pig for having eaten the whole thing. And yet, I don't really regret it. I'd do it again. Granted, not for a month or two, but man! That was delicious. Definitely fits the comfort food category.

Here's a picture of one. Not mine, but mine wasn't far off:
